The Crystal Skulls Serie
The Crystal Skulls series is a collection of art pieces started in 2018. The 1st edition of the series is composed of 4 pieces, The Unicorn; The Goat; The Ram and The Cat. The 2nd edition from 2021 is adding the Saltwater Crocodile; The Giraffe and The Whale in 2022 to the collection. The Leatherback Turtle is joining the collection in 2023 despite being dated 2022.
Skulls are linked with the idea of death and decay but in most cultures, they are intricated with mystical powers. It is the last body part that remains behind, once time has taken everything else. Siege of thought and knowledge, skulls had been sacred relics or trophies for ages. Used as a symbol of fear or a way to honour dead people, it was inevitable to find skull imagery in Arts. From religious purposes to decorate a heavy metal album cover, Skulls are found everywhere in cultural movements.
From a strictly artistic point of view, giving expression to a skull is a real challenge as there are no lips, no muscles nor eyes to add depth and emotions. The point of the series was to bring to life different skulls, combining them with another spiritual source of energy: crystals.

The Leatherback Turtle- 2023 series A4 21x29,7cm size on watercolour paper First-price watercolour paint and Monali watercolour palette. | The leatherback turtle or luth turtle is the largest turtle. Its skull is very thick and gives a wee Pokemon vibe. It is one of the easiest skulls I have drawn, but also one of the most satisfying ones. The teal is the colour I associate with this beautiful reptile.
